Under Vehicle Inspection System

UVIS Overview

The Perceptics Under Vehicle Inspection System (UVIS) provides a safe, rapid, and thorough method of examining the undercarriage of passenger and commercial vehicles. The system consists of a high-resolution color line-scan camera, in a folded optical design, and utilizes super bright LED illumination.

The image generated is the most detailed in the industry, and enables unmatched ability to detect devices or modifications to the vehicle undercarriage. Once the vehicle completely clears the scanning device, a 4K true-color digital image of the undercarriage is sent to the database and can be viewed by the operator. The seamless digital image allows the operator to see the undercarriage as a whole and to zoom in on any area.

Benefits & Features of Perceptics UVIS

The Perceptics UVIS stands apart from our competition for several reasons:

  • 4K resolution line-scan camera provides true-color digital image of vehicle undercarriage
  • Bi-directional capability with both the mobile and in-ground system
  • Capture a single seamless image for accurate detection
  • Provides 12X zoom capability
  • Standard scene camera provides color image of vehicle to match with undercarriage image
  • Scalable network architecture allows system to be used as a stand-alone or to be integrated with other security and access control devices
  • Cat5 network cabling allows unlimited stand-off distance from scanning unit
  • Database provides ability to search for images based on user defined criteria, such as license plate and vehicle model
  • Durable and commercial-vehicle-ready

UVIS Concept of Operation

The Perceptics UVIS automatically detects the presence of vehicles and captures a color digital image of both the vehicle’s undercarriage and the vehicle/driver as it passes over the system. Mobile or permanently installed static systems are designed to capture images for both inbound and outbound traffic.

Once the images are captured, they are saved to the database for access by the operator via the vehicle inspection system interface. The operator may easily view the images and use the enhancement features (zoom, brightness, contrast) to make the images as readable as possible. The operator may also compare the images with previously stored images using the compare function and user defined search parameters. The images are automatically archived by the database for access at any time.

UVIS Technology Advancement

The Perceptics UVIS technology continues to evolve and improve over time. One of the primary benefits associated with the latest generation of Perceptics technology is the ability to configure components and transfer results and images across the local area network (LAN) via Ethernet communications. Using this technology, operating speeds have been increased, stand-off distances have improved, and on-board diagnostics can provide equipment status information in real time.

A Typical UVIS Consists of the Following Components

  • Roadside Assembly which houses the weatherproof Under Vehicle Imager (UVI)
  • Power and Communication Unit (PCU)
  • Operator Workstation
  • Scene Camera Assembly
  • Mobile and permanently installed static systems are available
